I thought as you cant see pictures until the end of the trip I would paint a picture of the house for you.:)
We are staying at the end of a bay on a point just round the corner from the village so we have a very private setting with all the rain forest sheltering us. The house is two story tall the first level being an outside space under the deck with a square box/room that is used as a shed/pantry at the end right hand corner of the space. The outside wall of the box has a shelf leaning against it with pots, pans, tins, and a gas stove on top. A little table sits next to the shelf for preparing meals.
The space next to the shed has a long picnic table for all our meals and games ect. At the end of the table is a big net hammock and a little one that hangs under the stairs. A big wooden pole that supports one half of the deck has switches with cables that have been weaved through the planks under the deck that leads to light bulbs that hang over the table, food area, toilet and washing platform and bench. This is powered by batteries and solar panels, like a boat. The outside space is the best place to be when we have a very hot day as the deck provides shade and a cool strong breeze comes from the beach in front of us and the point on our right that the wind whistles past.
Upstairs is just a room halfway split by a wall. One side has a long desk that the charging and power panel sits on and next to that is a bunk, bottom bed is double and top is single. On the otherside of the half wall is a double bed for mum and dad. The deck lines the front of the house and wraps around the corner but does not go behind the house. When I am sleeping in the bed I share with darc I have to have earplugs as the forest is very loud with all the wind rushing through the leaves and the surf crashing on the reef and my most hated animal is the cicadas. All day and all night as soon as one starts buzzing really loudly the rest of the cicadas on the island go off. The whole forest is vibrating with electric buzzing, as you could imagine its not very helpful at 4 the morning. Though mum says it drowns out Dads snoring and Dad says he doesn't hear a thing.
Behind the house is a water tank on stilts for all our watering needs. Next to the house is a little shed with a toilet and a shower (mind you the shower is cold but in this climate its all good). Next to that outside is a wooden planked bench with a tap for brushing teeth, washing hands, dish washing and cleaning fish, all with the jungle surrounding it. While you do that you are standing on a wooden platform on the ground.
Out the front of the house is a bunch of plants and a clear dirt space where the washing hangs. In front is a cute little bench that sits on the edge of the beach that looks over the water, today we saw some sharks out there and we rushed out to the point to see them better. There is a guest house with a small deck and a hammock at the front with two beds inside.
That completes the grand worded tour of the house. It's a fantastic place to hang out and experience the Solomon Islands.

My favourite phrase is the one about the whole forest filled with electric buzzing. What a wonderful description of the mesmeric sound of cicadas! I wonder if that hammock would be available if I visited? Sounds glorious! Great blogging Ava. I feel I can visualize your island home! Brilliant writing. xxx
